First of all, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you folks out there in the ether! We’d like to thank you for your support and invite you to continue to check out our doings here, online, and out “there” in the real world.

After a couple years of laying down that awesome lead guitar, Gary George is leaving 4TH GUY SHINING. We’re gonna miss Gary, but it’s a good thing for some other people...Gary’s accepted the position of Worship Leader at New Heights Community Church in Santee, CA. Blessings Gary as you step out leading this fellowship in worship! We’ll miss seeing you Liz and Kaylee as much.

BUT...

Set Free Ministries - A Hot Saturday Night Show!

Saturday night, August 29th 4TH GUY SHINING was once again at one of our favorite places to play, Set Free Ministries in El Cajon, CA. We’re on a regular rotation there so you can look for us there about every six week or so. Check out DATES page to be sure!

When we play at Set Free we’re always greatful for many things. Well this time we were ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL for the slamming air conditioning in the building! NO JOKE! It was 110 degrees just a few steps out the doors where we were, thins time literally, “Jammin’ In The Furnace”!

As always, we had a blast playing for all the folks who showed up. They never fail to make us feel very welcome. And that’s so special to us as a band. The Set Free crowd ALWAYS is engaged with what we’re doing...they really participate in the worship and REALLY, REALLY, SING OUT LOUD and ON PURPOSE! Way to go you guys. YOU are an inspiration and encouragement to us!

It was also very cool to see some old friends at the show too. Any time our friends come out to hear us play is a real blessing to us. Thanks to you guys too! We so much enjoy playing at Set Free and appreciate their ministry and how hard they work there to put on an enjoyable evening. 4GS looks forward to seeing you there next month!

Worship At New Heights Chruch - Santee, CA

Sunday, July 19th, 4TH GUY SHINING had the opportunity to lead worship at New Heights Church in Santee, CA. We were excited to be invited by New Heights, but having played the previous night at SET FREE in El Cajon, CA., we weren’t sure exactly just how “awake” we would be come the 7AM call time for soundcheck!

Thankfully we all showed up, bright and early...and nicely caffeinated...at 7AM! We were met by a gentleman named Art who got us set up and soundchecked very nicely. Way to go Art! (we called him “Fine Art”)

While waiting for the service to start, we had a great time talking over what’s been going on with the band, and reflect on where we see things going in the future. It was nice to have some quiet time together to do that...but, we were in SANTEE, CA, and as the temperature started to climb, we happily adjourned to the fellowship building to lead worshp for the service.

As we started the worship set with “Let The Praises Ring”, we all noticed how engaged the congregation was in the singing and worshipping! AWESOME! It’s SO GREAT when the congregation is filled with the anticipation of worship! And even though they NEVER met, saw or heard US before, they ran full tilt into the presence of Christ in their worship! GOOD ON YA, NEW HEIGHTS CHURCH! Gary did a great job leading out and the songs sounded great too.

Pastor Brian Craig followed the worship with a great message on “Mannering You Mind” and the idea of basically making a disciple of our minds. It was very cool because his message completely meshed with what we were discussing as a band prior to the service! I LOVE it when that happens!

Thanks everyone at NEW HEIGHTS and an extra “cool beans” to Pastor Brian for noticing that my shoes bass and bass strings all were colored matched! Not something they usually catch, or at least ADMIT to!

Set Free Ministries - Saturday Night Concerts

On Saturday night, July 18th 4TH GUY SHINING was back at Set Free Ministries in El Cajon, CA. We’re on a regular rotation there so you can look for us there about every six week or so. Check out DATES page to be sure!

Anyway we were pretty excited to play there. It’s a cool place with a crowd that usually very receptive, appreciative and LOVES to worship! We were goin to be playing some songs for the first time out, so that was exciting...or at least a bit nervous. Getting ready wasn’t easy either since the venue’s soundman was very late showing up, our soundcheck was kind of rough. But we made it through and even learned a few things about doing soundchecks!

One of the things that Gary said that is very true...and cool is that SET FREE lets us pretty much rock out and play just about as loud as we can get! It’s awesome to just rock out and not worry about someone going wiggy about the volume. Hey, if you’re bringing the cool tunes, and you’ve got a good sound, why not do it to the high heavens?

Like I said earlier, we introduced a few songs to the set list...and to the crowd at SET FREE, namely Steve’s “When You See These Things” from the CD ARE YOU READY. Also a couple from guitarist Gary George; “Oh Lord”, and the bluesy “The End of Myself”. I think they all went over well, but I heard especailly good feedback from the crowd about Gary’s “The End of Myself”. It’s funny, but no matter how many times we go on a stage to play some songs, introducing a new one to a bunch of people is at least, a little bit harrowing.

All in all a good night at SET FREE. It was about 104 degrees in El Cajon that day, and not much cooler inside that night. But we pressed on, with fans, a little A/C and mucho prayer! We do enjoy playing there and appreciate their ministry and how hard they work there to put on an enjoyable evening. 4GS looks forward to seeing you there next month!
